Waves of Hope Lived Experience Team

A small team of people who have personal experiences of homelessness, reoffending, substance misuse and mental health conditions has been established to inform the work being done by the Liverpool Waves of Hope partnership and the wider landscape for people with multiple and complex needs in the city. Following the decision of the partnership to adopt a ‘Lived Experience Team’ model at the end of January this year, Big Life Group was tasked with recruiting 8-12 people to a 12-18 month programme of training and support and to provide opportunities to collectively influence the programme, other services in the city and relevant national work-streams.

With a membership deliberately drawn from across the city, the team will contribute to a wide range of projects and learn how to sustain this influence beyond the lifetime of the programme. The LET will become the primary vehicle for lived experience involvement within the programme and supports the intention of the partnership to adopt a structured approach to bringing the voices of people with lived experience to bear that gives representatives a clear mandate and supports the effective communication of changes that this work leads to.

Currently in its early stages, the team will be working together to agree terms of reference, decide key priorities and reflect on the practical applications of the partnership’s principles and values policy statement. Alongside its core scrutiny function, this development work will occupy the attention of the volunteer team in the short term, but capacity will be built and a robust offer for partners will be developed soon.

The team is also exploring initiating a Lived Experience Advisory Group, as part of the LWOH legacy.

Can I get involved?
